About Us

Marshmallows opened in October 2002 to provide high quality childcare and education. We offer full day & full time places between the hours of 7.30am – 6pm. We are open for 51 weeks of the year, closing for one week at Christmas, in addition to Bank Holidays.

We have created a safe, nurturing and stimulating environment in which the children can thrive and develop at every stage. Play is at the heart of early years learning and children spend much of their time with us involved in various activities and experiences ensuring that they enjoy nursery life and supporting them in reaching their full potential now and in the future. Play will often include an adult who will support the activities in order to ensure that the objectives of the play are achieved. It is part of the skill of staff to develop children’s play, to help their learning and development and to record their progress.

We operate a key worker system, which gives each member of staff responsibility for just a few children. Each child in the group has one special adult to relate to, which makes settling into the group much easier. In addition the key worker is in a position to monitor the progress and ensure a planned curriculum tailored to the needs of individual children, within our nursery the children are supported in developing at their own pace. The key worker maintains links with the child’s home setting, working with parents through shared record keeping to ensure that all children are supported in reaching their full potential.

Each child has their very own Learning journey, which includes photos of play and observations their key worker may have found that influences each child’s development. These are available to view by parents at all times. Each of the six EYFS areas of learning are used to help staff observe and monitor children’s individual development and to plan and arrange activities around each child’s individual needs and their individual age and stage of development. By means of developmentally appropriate activities and a high level of adult input, we offer a curriculum, which leads to nationally approved learning outcomes, and prepares children to progress with confidence to the national Curriculum at five years.

The staff are one of the most important assets of a nursery as they play such a key role in the children’s lives. We are very proud to say that some members of staff have worked at marshmallows for many years. The overall manager has been with marshmallows since 2002. Our staff team are qualified and trained in children’s care, learning and development, health and safety and first aid. All of our staff have continuous training to further their knowledge of early childhood development. All of our staff are CRB checked and together we have more than 75 years experience.
